Solar power took a big step toward becoming the alternative energy of choice with this week’s news that energy from sunlight might be cheaper than nuclear power. The analysis, which comes from a Duke University report entitled Solar and Nuclear Costs: The Historic Crossover, claims that, “Electricity from new solar installations is now cheaper than electricity from proposed new nuclear plants …
Alternative forms of energy get a chance when the "oil age" draws to an end. Germany leads when it comes to electricity generated by wind.

blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/11/alternative_energy_gift…

Next year is going to be a big year folks, we’ll see more investment and emphasis on alternative energy than ever before, this will be our "space race" and our "moon landing". The children of today will be the ones who will shape the next decade and the next century. As a parent, a friend, a mentor or just someone who is giving a gift this holiday season – instead of a plastic toy or nik-nak I’m going to ask the you consider giving something that might just spark the attention of a young mind that will be called to solve our energy needs.

We all know we will not be able to sustain a future on a fuel (oil) that’s going to eventually go away and/or become more expensive. No one really likes dealing with the Middle East for the most part and other nations like China and India are going to drive demand through the roof, we’re going to need to diversify our energy needs. It’s not going to be a lot of us reading MAKE right now, it’s going to be the children of folks reading MAKE.

Solar, wind, biodiesel, nuclear – these are all things we explore in the pages of MAKE, online, in our videos and with the kits we carefully select for our Maker Shed. We’re not going to get out this current crisis with the same thinking that got us here, we need to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, it’s going to take decades – 8 to 12 year olds today will be the ones who will need to rise to the challenge. Will our education system do enough? No – we’ll all need to do something. It’s a daunting task and a seemingly impossible challenge, and that’s why I know we’ll do it – if it was easy, it wouldn’t be interesting.

Entrepreneurs will see this as a wonderful opportunity to start new and amazing companies, I’m positive there are going to be more incentives to do so starting next year. We’re talking jobs, new industries, tax breaks – it’s going to happen, but everyone needs to do something. It might just be tinkering around with a solar panel in your neighborhood to get folks interested, it might be modding the Prius you just bought – a new era in energy independence is going to happen, not overnight, but I am 100% positive it will happen and it will be makers (and their children) who lead the way.

I’ve put together a gift guide of all the cool and interesting alternative energy kits and resources – check it, maybe send it to a few friends… if you think a young person might have what it takes to change the world, this might be the spark that starts it off… People always ask "how can we get started" – this is just one of the ways.

 Any ideas?

Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.

Ways To Get The Most Used Alternative Energy Companies For A Greener Life

In teh domain of alternative energy companies, there are several that cannot escape our notice. If you were to really think about it, there has been a gradual but sure conversion from traditional use of fossil fuels towards more overmuch alternative energy resources which would only try to welfare the world. Most of the alternative energy companies in this present day and age do try to make this a vision an absolute reality. However, since generations after generations have been socialized in to fossil fuels, the transition seems very hindered.

Some companies such as BP Global are certainly movers and shakers in the industry. But you must remember that being in the business of what these alternative energy companies are in is sure enough no easy task. There is so much work and impractical ideas that want to be crafted not to remark a great grade of investment too. Most alternative energy companies are now looking at a future fueled by alternative energy sources. Just as observed the fact that it is a alter is not holding matters any better.

Companies such as A123 and Vesta Wind Systems are just the hardly a of the alternative energy companies that making a difference. It also needs to be observed that there are enough and to a greater extent energy politics that are going on, which make passing certain policies a real hassle. But as we all know change is something that is good especially when the future of the Earth at large may depend upon it. So it is best to keep abreast of all new information and the various new energy sources we have. We are at this point employing quite a level of energy and it will not at any point lesson since the world population also is poised to increase every single year.

While there may be enough wrangling going on with subsequent governments and alternative energy companies it comes as no surprise that renewable sources of energy are very much in demand. Even though we may not at this point in time project the many uses they could be practiced for, there will be progressive opportunities given in the near future. After all, as we all know via history, when there is a certain want solutions do crop up thanks to the ingenuity of man.

Question by Tania B: what is the best form of alternative energy in you opinion?
what is the best form of alternative energy in you opinion and why??
in my opinion i think nuclear energy is…

Best answer:

Answer by Dakeyras L
Water, solar, wind.

Simply because they are clean.

The whole world however, could not run on just one. The generate enough wind power the amount of windmills would disrupt the natural winds of the earth.

Too many water stations would slowdown the currents of the earth.

Too manny solar panels would eventually block out too much sun.

Used all together would be perfect. If a windmill breaks it breaks and u fix it, if a nuclear plant melts down, we are all screwed.

Another great feature by MyWindPowerSystem.com Want to generate your own electricity? http A work group of the university of Delft is creating electricity with a kite. They were testing on the Dutch island Texel. You see several launches of the kite, one from the ground and two with the help of a blimp. The tests are part of the ‘Laddermill’ project by Wubbo Ockels, which aims to create energy from wind more efficiently than windmills. The Dutch scientists have successfully demonstrated a plan which could harness renewable energy, by flying a 10 metre kite.
