Tidal power is an emerging field of alternative energy production that is attempting to apply the lessons learned from wind power generation to the predictability of the tides. Tidal turbines are operationally identical to wind turbines, but must be designed to handle the much higher density of water, as well as to deal with corrosion, storms, and prevent damage caused by cavitation. Tidal power is extremely attractive to power companies because the tides are constant and predictable. Wind may not blow, the weather may hide the sun, but the tides are always moving, allowing tidal power generators to provide a constant source of energy.
